Safeguarding yourself is your primary responsibility BUT it is the responsibility of all of us not to leave dangerous objects, or situations, that could be the cause of others injuring themselves.
No list can be complete but obvious dangers include glass, unguarded tops of canes, debris on paths, uneven or slippery paths caused by soil being left on paths and becoming overgrown, wire and netting left on or near paths, overgrown bushes and vegetation, tools and chemicals, to name some of them.
When using power tools like Strimmers and Mowers it is easy to miss such dangers, particularly if they are hidden by overgrown vegetation and these dangers can lead to personal injury and damage to machines.
We all know it makes sense to think before you act, use your common sense and think of others.
We have had instances of our members, at the Down Road allotments, falling ill whilst working there. Fortunately other members happened to be there to care for them and even drive them home.
If you are suffering with a health problem that could result in a fall, or your being taken ill unexpectedly, or have an accident please make sure that
a) one or more of your allotment colleagues is present and knows of your condition and
b) that you have your mobile phone with you to call for help. If you have to direct help to Down Road allotment I suggest that you direct access via the bottom of The Deans.
